Member of Parliament – Master of Health Science – mother of three
Being an expert in well-being and a mother of three, I have a strong sense of everyday life in urban environment of Helsinki. People's well-being and a clean environment must be a priority in decision-making. Gender and intergenerational equality are important to me, as are promoting work, entrepreneurship and a good working life. Every parent should be able to combine work and family life. Quality of life must be improved alongside a sustainable economy. The globe must be left to our children in a condition that we – and they - can be proud of.
EDUCATION AND RESEARCH ARE OUR MAIN INVESTMENTS
I want that the joy and potential of learning are equally accessible to everyone, so that no one is excluded. Every child must have the right to learn and to access the knowledge to gain skills to carry on to at least a secondary degree and working life.
LOCAL SERVICES MUST BE SECURED
I find it important that everyone gets the services they need. There should be nurseries where there are children. Healthcare services must be available when needed. The problems with elderly care must be tackled and taken seriously. Elderly Services Act (Vanhuspalvelulaki) needs to be reformed.
GOOD AND EQUAL WORKING LIFE
Working life needs women and men, including parenting fathers and mothers. The family leave system must be reformed to make it more flexible and equal. The costs of parenting for employers must be offset. Working life needs to be made more flexible, and age discrimination must be erased.
WORKING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP
The focus of taxation must be shifted from work to taxation of consumption and emissions. The tax on labour and pensions must be moderately reduced. Most of the new jobs are created in small and medium sized enterprises, so their prerequisites need to be improved. Raising the employment rate secures the existence of a welfare state.
A STRONG CITY POLICY IS IN EVERYBODY’S INTEREST
A strong metropolitan area is the engine of the entire Finnish economy. State rail investments must be increased and congestions reduced. Every Helsinki citizen should be able to afford living in his/her hometown.
THE CLEAN ENVIRONMENT AND THE SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY ARE THE BEST HERITAGE WE CAN LEAVE TO OUR CHILDREN.
We can influence the scale and consequences of climate change. People need to be encouraged to live, travel and use resources sustainably. The protection of the Baltic Sea must be enhanced.
